Participation Agreement & Risk Acknowledgement

Please provide the participant's full name, date of birth, activity and date of visit. If the participant is under 18, we also need the parent/guardian full name, relationship to the participant and an emergency contact number.

SPLAT HQ provides creative and messy-play activities which may include:

• Family SPLAT Sessions
• UV Paint Battles
• Paint-filled water guns
• Splatter painting
• Canvas painting
• Messy Minis
• Sensory and messy-play activities
• Birthday parties
• SEND sessions
• Team games and challenges

Activities vary depending on the session booked.

SPLAT HQ activities involve physical and creative activities in an environment where paint, water and other materials may be present. Even where appropriate precautions are taken, participation may involve risks including slips, trips and falls; contact with paint or other activity materials; paint entering the eyes or mouth; minor cuts, bumps or bruises; collisions with other participants; skin irritation or allergic reaction; sensory discomfort caused by UV lighting, noise or other effects; and damage or staining to clothing, footwear or personal belongings. Staff cannot eliminate every inherent risk associated with participation. Participants agree to follow the safety briefing, displayed rules and reasonable instructions given by SPLAT HQ staff. Nothing in this agreement excludes or restricts any liability which cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

SPLAT HQ uses CE-marked, non-toxic, water-based washable paints for its general paint activities. Brands and products may vary and can include Scola, Artsol and equivalent products. Although products are described as washable, SPLAT HQ cannot guarantee that paint or other materials will wash completely from every fabric, shoe or personal item. Participants should wear old clothing, wear suitable footwear, remove or protect valuable belongings and follow staff instructions regarding protective equipment. Where safety goggles or other PPE are provided for an activity, they must be worn as instructed.

Participants or their parent/guardian must inform staff before participation of any relevant allergies, skin sensitivities, medical conditions, sensory sensitivities, epilepsy or photosensitivity, additional needs or other circumstances that may affect safe participation. Where necessary, staff may adapt an activity or disable particular lighting effects. Strobe effects can be disabled where required.

Participants must not run inside SPLAT HQ, must follow staff instructions, wear required PPE, not intentionally aim paint at another person’s face or eyes, not throw equipment, not deliberately damage equipment or the room, not engage in pushing, fighting or unsafe physical contact, use equipment only for its intended purpose, and stop an activity when instructed by staff. SPLAT HQ reserves the right to stop a participant taking part where their behaviour presents an unreasonable risk to themselves or another person.

Children under 8 must remain under the supervision of their accompanying parent or responsible adult unless participating in an activity specifically operated as a supervised organised session. For parent-supervised activities, including Messy Minis and Family SPLAT Sessions, the accompanying adult remains responsible for supervising the child throughout the activity. SPLAT HQ staff supervise the safe operation of the activity and are not providing childcare.

Messy Minis is intended for children aged 18 months–5 years. A parent/carer must remain with and supervise their child. Children may come into contact with paint, water and sensory materials. Children must not consume activity materials. Parents/carers should prevent children placing non-food activity materials in their mouths. Staff instructions must be followed.

Some SPLAT HQ activities use UV lighting and may offer flashing or strobing lighting effects. These effects may not be suitable for everyone. Participants agree to tell staff before the activity if they or the participant in their care has photosensitive epilepsy, light sensitivity or another condition that could be affected by flashing or UV lighting. Strobe effects can be disabled when required.

SPLAT HQ is a messy activity environment. Participants are strongly advised to wear clothing and footwear they do not mind getting dirty or stained. Reasonable precautions are taken to use washable materials, but complete removal of paint from clothing, footwear or personal belongings cannot be guaranteed. Valuable personal belongings should not be taken into the activity area.

If an injury or illness occurs during an activity, participants should immediately inform a member of staff. Where appropriate, the shift-designated first aider will provide first aid. Emergency services will be contacted where staff consider this necessary. For a child, the parent/guardian or emergency contact will be informed as appropriate.

Participants will be asked to choose whether they consent to photographs/video being used by The Boulder Bunker Ltd for its website, social media and marketing. Choosing NO does not affect participation.

By signing below you confirm that you have read and understood this agreement, have had the opportunity to ask questions before participation, the information you have provided regarding medical conditions, allergies and additional needs is accurate to the best of your knowledge, you understand the nature of the activity and the inherent risks described, and you agree to follow SPLAT HQ’s safety rules and staff instructions. Where signing for a child, you confirm that you are their parent/legal guardian or otherwise have authority to give the necessary participation consent. This agreement does not affect your statutory rights.
