Description

The "Pogo" drill is designed to help you enhance your coordination skills and effectively utilize momentum to transition between climbing positions. By propelling yourself using your off-leg, you will learn how to generate 59 and control momentum, which can be particularly useful on dynamic routes or problems.

Instructions

Start Position : Begin the route as you usually would, establishing your initial footholds and handholds. Pogo Position: Before you move to a new foothold, dangle that foot (or put it in a flag position, whatever enables you to have a balance on one foot). Leg Propel : Swing the leg to the next foothold/position. This is your “Pogo” move. Essentially, you are using momentum and dynamic movement with your legs to make progress on the climb. New Position : Catch yourself in the new position with your foothold and consequently your hands and prepare to pogo with the other leg. Climb Completion: Continue to swing your leg to each of the new foothold positions for the entirety of the route.

Notes & Tips

Flagging can be a useful technique to maintain your balance as you make these dynamic “Pogo” movements.
