Squat and Push
Description
The "Squat and Push" drill is designed to build your leg strength while also improving your dynamic movement skills. This exercise will compel you to engage your leg muscles more than you usually would, and by doing so, it enhances your ability to make explosive movements when needed. You may be wondering why this drill isn't in the Technique & Skills Drills section. Though dynamic movement is an essential skill in climbing, the focus of this drill is more on muscle engagement and thus it's primarily focused on strength.
Instructions
Squat Low : Before moving your hands to the next hold, squat down by touching your buttocks to your heels. Explode Up : Use the power in your legs to explosively push yourself upward to reach the next handhold.
Notes & Tips
Even if the handholds on the route are relatively close to each other and an explosive movement seems unnecessary, continue to perform the full squat and explosive push. The aim is to build strength and make dynamic movements a natural part of your climbing repertoire.
