Description

The "Square Dancing" drill is all about honing in on the art of maintaining body tension. This specialized exercise puts a spotlight on your ability to keep a square body position, especially on overhangs, challenging not just your grip strength but also the very muscles required for maintaining tension. By practicing this drill, you'll build strength and body awareness, resulting in more efficient and controlled climbing.

Instructions

Maintain the Square : Throughout the route, aim to keep your body in a square position relative to the wall. This means both hips and both shoulders should face the wall as if forming the corners of a square. Resist the twist : Typically, we twist our hips to get closer to the wall while we climb on Overhangs, but to build core tension and strength, you will be thrusting your hips forward into the wall to get closer.

Notes & Tips

This drill is not for improving overhang climbing and does not mimic the ideal movement for climbing on overhangs. Instead, it is meant to build strength for body tension which is necessary for improving climbing. The lower your feet are, the more core engagement will be needed. The closer your feet are to your hands; the more grip strength will be needed to complete the route.
