Description

If you're looking to up your climbing game, the "Kim Crawl" drill is designed to improve your mobility while simultaneously encouraging greater use of your lower body with perching. Mastering this technique will not only make you more efficient but will also help you tackle more challenging routes down the line. This was inspired by the professional climber Jain Kim, who has mastered this skill.

Instructions

Foot Placement : Before moving your hand, find a spot to place your corresponding foot as high as possible on the route. Place your foot in a position to mantle on top of the hold. Rockover and Reach : Simultaneously rock your body over the foothold while reaching for the next hold with your hand. This is an intense rockover but the height of the hold may make it look closer to mantling. Complete the Climb : Continue to place your feet as high as possible for each movement on the wall until you reach the top.

Notes & Tips

If this is your first time doing this drill, consider using other route holds to complete the movement. Mobility is key. If you lack the flexibility, it will push your hips away from the wall, making this drill much harder. So, only place your foot as high as you can while maintaining control and leverage. This drill is typically done while maintaining square hips, meaning that both hips will face the wall at the same time. Practice toe placement to ensure you can put your weight on the hold.
